Report an issue with this species

Alnus cordata is a handsome deciduous tree with wide-spreading branches and a heavy, shade-providing canopy. Its leathery, heart-shaped leaves have serrated margins and turn an attractive shade of yellow in fall. This fast-growing tree is often a pioneer species of disturbed sites, not picky about soil, and improves soil fertility by fixing nitrogen.
